In my studio we will BEGIN with drawing and expand from there. Drawing is an easily gained skill if taught with simple instructions.
The misguided notion that some can draw but others do not possess this talent, will prove insignificant. Any child, any age, young or old, can find exceptional joy and success in a few fun lessons.
Once we have confidence in our drawing capabilities, we will explore and learn other skills using demonstrations and art history to learn how to draw, paint and sculpt. We study the work and lives of the great artists and try to understand their place in history. Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keeffe, Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, René Magritte and so many others guide us through our own artistic journey.
We use a wide range of materials such as charcoal, pastels, acrylics, oil, watercolor, pen and ink, and clay. Whenever possible, the great museum shows here in NYC will guide my choice of artists we will be studying, so we can visit those shows together, bring our families and share what we have learned.
In addition to the fine arts, advanced crafts such as glass painting, bead making, jewelry making, stamp making, paper making, stenciling and mosaics will enhance our fun filled afternoons.
Music will play, sometimes we'll sing together while we work, but always we will be learning, sharing, exploring and creating art.
What distinguishes For Art’s Sake from other art programs is my love of drawing and the joy I bring to teaching your child how to draw. I have found over these years that children are yearning to draw realistically but few art schools public or private dedicate much time to this activity.
